Indians run past the Hawks

The Chattooga Indians were happy to be in Action Friday night despite the fact that September 17th was originally a bye week for the Indians. Chattooga Coaches along with administration worked hard to get this game scheduled to make up for one of the two missed games because of the Covid-19 Quarantine earlier in the year. Chattooga traveled to Newnan Georgia to face off against the Hawks of The Heritage School.
Chattooga and Heritage(Newnan) put on a show with an offensive explosion. Both teams combined for a total of 87 points. Chattooga held the surging hawks off late to take the 49 to 38 Win. Both teams had multiple players go over 100 yards rushing in the game. Chattooga’s #4 Nic Hester had 8 Carries for 210 Yards and 4 Touchdowns. Indians Fullback #8 Devon Heroch had 13 Carries for 124 yards and 1 Touchdown of his own. The Indians as a whole rushed 37 Times for 470 yards and 6 Touchdowns. Heritage(Newnan) was paced by their 6 foot 3 inch 245 pound senior running back #6 James Thorpe with 21 Carries for 146 yards and 3 Touchdowns.
The Hawks of Heritage had the ball to start the game and went on a long drive that took over five and a half minutes off the clock. The Drive ended on the Chattooga twenty-five yard line by and interception by Chattooga’s #2 Jaylon Johnson. Just a couple plays later Chattooga got on the board first with a 48 yard touchdown run by #4 Nic Hester. The PAT was good by #89 Caroline Hodges to make the score 7-0 Chattooga. On the ensuing drive Heritage(Newnan) scored on a 74 Yard touchdown by Qb #3 Hugh Barbee. The first quarter would end at a 7-7 Tie.
On just the second play of the second quarter the Indians QB #12 Brody Mobbs Connected with #2 Jaylon Johnson for a 25 yard Touchdown pass to bring the score to 14-7. The next possession for the Hawks ended on a failed fake punt. Chattooga scored quickly on a run by #4 Nic Hester a few plays Later to make it 21-7 Indians. After an interception by #25 Lashaun Lester of the Indians. #14 Zayden Perry took the ball 55 yards for the long Touchdown run to make it 28-7 Chattooga at the Half.
The very first play of the second half resulted in a 64 yard Touchdown run for #4 Nick Hester.That made the score 35-7 Chattooga. That is where things started to get interesting. Heritage(Newnan) scored the next 17 Points to bring the score to 35-24 with a little over two minutes left in the third quarter.
Chattooga would tack on two more scores in the 4th quarter to hang on and give the Indians their first win of the season by the Score of 49-38. Next week September 24th The Heritage School Hawks (0-3) hosts Mt. Zion Eagles while the Indians of Chattooga (1-2) will start Region 7-AA play by hosting the Model Bluedevils on Homecoming.
