Week 9 GHSA Girls Basketball Rankings

Team FYN Sports

We’ve made it to week 9 of Georgia High School basketball for the 2021-2022 season. Our local area teams have really shown out thus far!

Let’s take a look at some of our girls teams who have cracked the top 10 in their respective classifications.

2A Top 10

1. Elbert County (16-2)

2. Fannin County (12-2)

Ryan Chastain’s Fannin County Rebels come in at number 2 in this weeks rankings. They’ve hung around the top 3 all year, and are only surpassed this week by Elbert County. The reason behind Elbert County coming in at #1 is because of their strength of schedule. They played Buford (10-3), and only lost to the 6A power house by single digits. They also have some quality wins under their belt, including a 48-45 victory over Josey, who comes in at #3 on this week’s rankings. Fannin County and Elbert County have one common opponent in North Oconee. Fannin came away with a 59-49 win, while Elbert came away with a 63-40 win. Coming down the stretch, the Lady Rebels will rely heavily on their Senior leadership as they navigate their tough region 7aa schedule.  Up next for the Lady Rebels is a matchup tonight, Tuesday, January 11th, against Chattooga.

3. Josey (10-4)

4. Rabun County (12-3)

Rabun County coming in at number 4 should be of no shock to people who have watched them play ball this year. They started out the season a bit rocky, with 2 losses in 3 games, but since then they have been on a tear. A close 72-71 victory over AAA Cherokee Bluff proved that they could finish strong in a tight game. They are coming off of a 6 point loss to defending NCHSAA 1A State Champs Murphy High School and will look to right the ship against Union County tonight.

5. Washington County (8-1)

6. Northeast-Macon (10-4)

7. Dodge County (8-2)

8. Swainsboro (9-0)

9. Heard County (14-3)

10. Lamar County (11-4)

3A Top 10

1. Lumpkin County (15-1)

The Lady Indians started the year at #1, and they’ve kept that ranking for the entire season thus far. Big wins in their own Christmas tournament over Peachtree Ridge and Jefferson solidfy that as of right now, they’re one of the top teams in Georgia. They should run through the rest of their Region schedule and finish the season with only 1 blemish on their record if everything goes well.

2. GAC (7-4)

3. Cross Creek (9-1)

4. Pierce County (11-2)

5. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (15-0)

6. Redan (8-4)

7. East Jackson (13-1)

8. Burke County (8-2)

9. North Hall (11-5)

10. Oconee County (10-4)

4A Top 10

1. Luella (12-2)

2. Jefferson (14-2)

3. Carver-Columbus (9-2)

4. Baldwin (11-2)

5. Marist (11-2)

6. Arabia Mountain (10-3)

7. Cedar Shoals (10-3)

8. Pickens (13-2)

The Nettes come in at number 8 in 4A, and with only 2 losses on their record you could argue they should crack the top 5. Their only 2 losses have come against very good teams early in the season. They fell to Fannin 42-39, in a season kickoff tournament in Blue Ridge, then they lost their following game to Calhoun. Since then, the Dragonettes have been feeling it up. They’re coming off of a huge win over Northwest Whitfield, and will look to build off of that momentum moving forward.

9. Bainbridge (12-4)

10. Chestatee (11-5)
