Ramblers Roll Past Chattooga

The Chattooga Indians opened their 2023 football season with a short trip up highway 27 to Lafayette. The Ramblers from Lafayette proved to be a tough opponent as they outscored the Indians 28-0 in route to a 28-3 Lafayette Victory.

First Quarter

The Indians would get off to a quick start in the game. After forcing an opening drive punt the Indians went 67 yards on a pass from #6 Landon Willingham to #18 Matthew Bryant down to the 2 yard line. A few plays later the Indians put 3 points on the board by #22 Pedro Lopez . After a unsuccessful fake punt by Lafayette the Rambler defense would put points on the board with a 59 yard interception return for touchdown by #15 Blaze Stone . The very next drive #27 Dawson Pendergrass would come up with an interception of his own to set the Ramblers offense up near mid field to start the second quarter. The first quarter would end with Lafayette leading Chattooga 7-3.

Second Quarter

Lafayette would go on a long drive that would consume about half of the second quarter. The drive would be capped off by a 5 yard touchdown run by #4 Khalas Finley . Chattooga would go on a drive about halfway down the field but it would stall and result in a turnover on downs. The Ramblers would try a few long passes right before the half but would be unable to add any more points to the board. The Halftime score would be Lafayette 14 Chattooga 3.

Second Half

The second half of the ballgame was controlled by Lafayette. Chattooga would make a few promising drives but would be unable to garner any points. LaFayette on the other hand would add two more touchdowns. The first of the scores was a 6 yard run by #23 Brayden Jones .  The second and final score of the game came on a long pass touchdown from #27  Dawson Pendergrass to #88 Jude Godfrey. That would make the final Lafayette 28 Chattooga 3.

Next Week

Lafayette Ramblers move to 1-0(0-0) and will be on the road next week as they will face off against the Trion Bulldogs 1-0(0-0). The Chattooga Indians 0-1(0-0) will be off next week and will be back in action on September 1st as they will travel to Temple 1-0(0-0) to face off against the Tigers.

By July they were advertising for people to buy lots and help grow the new town of Summerville and Chattooga County. This article appeared in various newspapers throughout the south.
