Indians Edge Colts on Late Game Field Goal

The first home game of the year on the new turf ended in the first win of the season for the Chattooga Indians and it also notched the first ever win for Indian Head Coach Roone Gable. The Indians Scored on their first and last possessions of the game to secure the Victory. The go ahead score was provided by the leg of #22 Pedro Lopez on a 23 yard Field Goal to seal the win for the Indians.

First Quarter

Chattooga would take the opening drive and move the ball down the field via run and pass. The Indians #11 Quarry Gibson would finish off the drive in the endzone with a 11 yard touchdown catch from #6 Landon Willingham . Both teams would have one more possession in the first quarter ending in punt.

Second Quarter

After another set of punt ending possessions Coahulla Creek would get tricky on a punt return and hand the ball off to a player on a reverse, #13 Keith Collins would go all the way down the sideline. Collins was finally tracked down by punter #19 Hunter Brown at the Indian 15 yard line. Two plays later Coahulla Creek would tie the game up on a 3 yard run by #9 Karim Bradley . That would conclude all scoring in the half. Halftime score Chattooga 7 Coahulla Creek 7.

Third Quarter

Coahulla Creek would start the third quarter with a long run by #11 Chase Ward that would get the Colts into Indian territory. Just a few plays later the Colts were setup first and goal at the Indian 6 yard line. After a few penalties and and incomplete pass the Colts would attempt a 32 yard field goal that would sail left of the upright no good. After swapping punts again the Indians would drive down to the Coahulla Creek 21 yard line as the third quarter ended. The score remained Chattooga 7 Coahulla Creek 7.

Fourth Quarter

The Indians would score early in the fourth on a 7 yard touchdown from #6 Landon Willingham to #0 Dan Meyer . On the Colts next possession they would convert on fourth down for a 19 yard touchdown pass from #11 Chase Ward to #14 Nate Tilley. That would tie the game up at 14-14 with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game. After punts by both teams Chattooga would start their last drive on their own 40 yard line with only 59 seconds left in the game. #0 Dan Meyer would take the first play of the drive 20 yards down to the Colts 40 yard line. That play would be followed up by a few good runs by #7 Zayden Cook to set the Indians up for the game winning field goal by #22 Pedro Lopez from 23 yards out. Final was Chattooga 17 Coahulla Creek 14.

Next Week

Chattooga 1-2(0-0) will be Celebrating Homecoming next week and will host The Murray County Indians 0-3(0-0). Coahulla Creek 1-2(0-0) will be on the road at Ridgeland 0-3(0-0) to kick off 6AAA region play.

Ramblers Roll Past Chattooga

The Chattooga Indians opened their 2023 football season with a short trip up highway 27 to Lafayette. The Ramblers from Lafayette proved to be a tough opponent as they outscored the Indians 28-0 in route to a 28-3 Lafayette Victory.

First Quarter

The Indians would get off to a quick start in the game. After forcing an opening drive punt the Indians went 67 yards on a pass from #6 Landon Willingham to #18 Matthew Bryant down to the 2 yard line. A few plays later the Indians put 3 points on the board by #22 Pedro Lopez . After a unsuccessful fake punt by Lafayette the Rambler defense would put points on the board with a 59 yard interception return for touchdown by #15 Blaze Stone . The very next drive #27 Dawson Pendergrass would come up with an interception of his own to set the Ramblers offense up near mid field to start the second quarter. The first quarter would end with Lafayette leading Chattooga 7-3.

Second Quarter

Lafayette would go on a long drive that would consume about half of the second quarter. The drive would be capped off by a 5 yard touchdown run by #4 Khalas Finley . Chattooga would go on a drive about halfway down the field but it would stall and result in a turnover on downs. The Ramblers would try a few long passes right before the half but would be unable to add any more points to the board. The Halftime score would be Lafayette 14 Chattooga 3.

Second Half

The second half of the ballgame was controlled by Lafayette. Chattooga would make a few promising drives but would be unable to garner any points. LaFayette on the other hand would add two more touchdowns. The first of the scores was a 6 yard run by #23 Brayden Jones .  The second and final score of the game came on a long pass touchdown from #27  Dawson Pendergrass to #88 Jude Godfrey. That would make the final Lafayette 28 Chattooga 3.

Next Week

Lafayette Ramblers move to 1-0(0-0) and will be on the road next week as they will face off against the Trion Bulldogs 1-0(0-0). The Chattooga Indians 0-1(0-0) will be off next week and will be back in action on September 1st as they will travel to Temple 1-0(0-0) to face off against the Tigers.

Chattooga Earns a Win at Murray County

The Chattooga Indians made the trip Chatsworth to face off against the Indians of Murray County. Both teams came into this game looking for their first win and some momentum heading into region play. The Indians from Chattooga were led by Sophomore Quarterback #11 Quarry Gibson who had 2 Touchdowns and was responsible for 207 total yards. Both teams would be scrappy and fight hard but the Indians from Chattooga would prevail and grab the 28-7 Win.

Early First Half

Murray County would win the coin toss and elect to receive. The Green Indians would get a quick 9 yard run by #32 Chase Jarvis . However the next play would result in a fumbled handoff and Chattooga would take over on the Murray County 39 Yard line. A few plays later #11 Quarry Gibson would run left then reverse field and score from 25 yards out. Unfortunately it would not stand because of an illegal blindside block by Chattooga. The drive would then stall and Chattooga would go on to turn the ball over on downs after a big 4th down sack by Murray County.

Late First Half

Murray would drive the ball down to the Chattooga 35 yard line before #21 Corde’ Hill would intercept the Murray Pass. At the 1st Quarter buzzer Chattooga would get on the Scoreboard with a 1 yard Touchdown Pass from #11 Quarry Gibson to #15 Brock Cooper . The Pat would be no good and at the end of the 1st Quarter the score was Chattooga 6 Murray County 0. After a few defensive stops by both teams Chattooga would get on the board again this time on a 56 yard Punt Return for Touchdown by #11 Quarry Gibson. After being grabbed on the leg and spun around Quarry regained his footing and dashed 56 yards to the Endzone. Chattooga would go for the two point conversion and it would be successful on a 3 yard run by #3 Zaden Perry . At the Half the score was Chattooga 14 Murray County 0.

Third Quarter

Chattooga would receive the ball to start the second half. They would make the next drive a quick one with chunk plays on the ground. #3 Zaden Perry would carry the ball for 36 yards followed by a 30 yard run by #11 Quarry Gibson . A few plays later #4 Trey Smith would take the speed sweep for a 4 yard Touchdown. Pat was good by #72 Juan Roque . Murray county would then take the ball and go on a long drive that would result in a 23 yard Touchdown pass from #10 Aaron Flood to #24 Nathaniel Perry . The PAT would be good from #89 Joseph Jones . That would end the 3rd quarter with the Score Chattooga 21 Murray County 7.

Fourth Quarter

Both teams defense would stand up early in the fourth and force punts. Chattooga would then take the ball into Murray territory where the Murry Indians would recover a fumble and start their next drive at their own 43 yard line. After a 24 yard pass completion from #10 Aaron Flood to #32 Chase Jarvis the Indians from Chattooga held Murray on downs and took the ball with a little over 4 minutes left on the clock. The Chattooga offense would move the ball down the field while chewing up clock late in the game. The Indians would put the final points on the board with a 1 yard plunge by #11 Quarry Gibson . The final score would be Chattooga 28 Murray County 7.

Next Week

Region play will start next Friday for both teams. Murray County 0-4(0-0) will be on the road at Model 2-2(0-0). While Chattooga 1-3(0-0) will return home to host the Pepperell Dragons 2-2(0-0)
