Chattooga Runs to a Big Region Win

The Chattooga Indians Hosted the Wolverines from Dade County Friday night at the Little Big Horn in Summerville. Both Teams came into this matchup with an undefeated region record looking to take the next steps towards a possible region title. The Game was back and forth until halftime. The Indians Defense pitched a second half shutout to help lead Chattooga to victory. The Final was Chattooga 28 Dade County 13.

Dade County won the toss and elected to differ to the second half. Chattooga started their first possession at the 30 yard line. Chattooga’s drive ended on a 41 yard Touchdown run by #25 Lashaun Lester. PAT was good by #89 Caroline Hodges. Lester was a force on the drive racking up over 60 yards rushing.  Dade County took the ensuing drive and went right down the field. Dade’s # 5 Cayden Cooper finished the drive with a 6 yard Touchdown run. PAT was good by # 81 Caroline Trimmer. Two plays later #25 Lashaun Lester took the ball 59 yards down to the 6 yard line of the Wolverines. #12 Brody Mobbs would eventually punch it into the End Zone from 1 yard out to make the Score 14-7 Indians. That would end the first Quarter.

Dade County had Possession of the ball starting the second quarter in Chattooga territory. A sack by the Indian defense put Dade in a 3rd and 16. The Wolverines offensive playcaller would dial up a screen to the Runningback # 5 Cayden Cooper that would get them a first down all the way down inside the Chattooga 20 yard line. On a 4th and 2 from the Chattooga 11 yard line Quarterback #10 Brody Cooper Called his own number for a 11 yard Touchdown run. The Extra point was Blocked by #22 Rowan Burdick. The Score with 4 minutes to go until halftime was Chattooga 14 Dade County 13. Dade attempted an onside kick that was covered by # 10 Kobi Farmer at the Wolverine 49 yard line. Dade came up with a big stop on 4th down after Chattooga started with great field position. Dade would drive the length of the field but would be stopped without getting any points before halftime.

Dade elected to receive the ball to start the second half. The Indians would stop Dade County after a three and out to start the second half.  # 25 Lashaun Lester would break a few more explosive plays to get the Indians down to the 1 yard line. # 4 Nic Hester would punch it in from 1 yard out. PAT was good by #89 Caroline Hodges. Dade would take their next possession nowhere and would have to punt back to the Indians.  The Indians would hold possession to the end of the the 3rd Quarter.

 

The Indians would  start the 4th quarter on the Dade County 31 yard line. A few plays later #12 Brody Mobbs would QB sneek for a Touchdown from 1 yard out. With 7:53 to go in the Game the score was Chattooga 28 Dade County 13.  Dade would take the next kickoff and drive it into Indian territory but would be stopped on downs by the stingy Indian defense. Dade would get the ball back with little time left on the clock. In attempt to move the ball quickly down the field Dade would turn to the passing game. Chattooga’s #4 Nic Hester would intercept a pass and go to victory formation to seal the Win for the Indians.

The Indians were dominate on the ground as they rushed 45 times for 293 yards and 4 Touchdowns.  #25 Lashaun Lester led all rushers with 20 Carries for 200 Yards and 1 Touchdown. Chattooga moves to 5-2(4-0) and will be on the road next week at Fannin County in what will be the Battle for the Region 7-AA Championship. Dade County moves to 5-2(2-1) and will be back home at Magic Morgan Stadium to face the Coosa Eagles.

 

Indians Stay Unbeaten in 7-AA

The Chattooga Indians came into this game knowing that a win would qualify them for the AA State Playoffs. After a successful night on offense and a suffocating defense that is just what they did . The Indians are guaranteed a playoff spot with region title chances still ahead. Chattooga’s dominating play on both sides of the ball led to a 40-3 win on the road vs the Eagles from Coosa.

The game began with the Eagles of Coosa receiving the kickoff. Three plays later the Eagles were punting the ball away to the Indians. Chattooga’s #20 Gene Keith blocked the punt and the ball was recovered at the 20 yard line. Chattooga began their first possession from the Eagles 20 yard line. After a 5 yard offsides penalty on the Eagles, Chattooga’s # 4 Nic Hester  took the ball 15 yards around left end for the first points of the game. PAT was good by Caroline Hodges to make the score Chattooga 7 Coosa 0. The next drive for the eagles was fueled by a 35 yard run by Coosa’s #11 Darahjae Hames which took the ball all the down inside the Chattooga 30 yard line. The Eagles would take the ball all the way down to the 4 yard line but would have to settle for a 26 yard Field Goal by #8 Jose Valerio to make the score Chattooga 7 Coosa 3. Coosa would force a punt on the next Indian possession. That would bring the first quarter to an end.

The first play of the second quarter resulted in a fumble recovery by # 20 Gene Keith after a big hit by # 8 Devon Heroch. The Indians would start their next drive on the Eagles 29 yard line.  Just a few plays later #25 Lashaun Lester took it to the endzone from 14 yards out. That Would take the score to Chattooga 14 Coosa 3. After three straight punts Chattooga would mount a drive aided by a 65 yard scamper by #4 Nic Hester. The drive would end on a 5 Yard Touchdown for #25 Lashaun Lester. That would take us to halftime with the score Chattooga 21 Coosa 3.

Chattooga would receive the second half kickoff and two plays later #25 Lashaun Lester  went 62 yards for the Chattooga Touchdown. That would send the score to Chattooga 28 Coosa 3. Coosa’s next possession would end on a failed fake punt attempt sniffed out by #56 Carter Lowenberg. That Indians would start the next drive on the Coosa 48 yard line. The very next play was a 48 yard Touchdown pass from #12 Brody Mobbs to #2 Jaylon Johnson. That would conclude the third quarter with the score Chattooga 35 Coosa 3.

With a running clock to begin the 4th quarter Chattooga’s #89 Caroline Hodges was true on a 23 yard field goal to make the score Chattooga 38 Coosa 3. After a stop by the Indian defense Chattooga unloaded the bench with some fresh clean jerseys on the next offensive possession.  Three plays later the Indians punted the ball back to the eagles. Chattooga’s young punter #19 Hunter Brown unloaded on huge 63 yard punt to pin the Eagles back inside their own 10 yard line. The very next snap was bobbled and recovered in the endzone by the Eagles for a safety. That would bring the score to Chattooga 40 Coosa 3. That would be your final.

Chattooga was led by #25 Lashaun Lester with 12 Carries for 98 Yards and 3 Touchdowns and #4 Nic Hester with 2 Carries for 68 yards and 1 Touchdown. Chattooga Moves to 4-2(3-0) and will play host to the Dade County Wolverines in a game that figures to have huge playoff seeding implications.  Coosa Falls to 0-6(0-2) and will play host to the Gordon Central Warriors next week.

 

 

Indians Run Past the Warriors

The Chattooga Indians traveled to Calhoun to face the Gordon Central Warriors in the first Region 7-AA road game for the Indians. The Indians returned home with a 47 to 21 Victory. The Indians dominate ground game was the deciding factor in the game. Chattooga as a team rushed the ball 40 times for 391 yards and 5 Touchdowns. That wasn’t the only impressive stat of the game. The Indians Defense was sharp as well only giving up 63 yards rushing on 39 Carries.

-Early in the game both teams struggled to get any traction as both teams were forced to punt. Gordon Central recovered a muffed punt near midfield but the Indians defense held and forced the third consecutive punt of the game. Chattooga forced one more punt near the end of the 1st quarter. The first quarter came to an end as the Drive reached the Warrior 44 yard line.

-The very first play of the 2nd Quarter yielded points for the Indians as Chattooga’s #12 Brody Mobbs hit #22 Rowan Burdick as he was streaking down the field for a 44 yard Touchdown Pass. The PAT was good by #89 Caroline Hodges. After a quick three and out for the Warriors the Indians got on the board again just a few plays later with an 18 yard run by #22 Rowan Burdick. Gordon Central mounted a nice drive aided by a couple long pass plays from #13 Peyton Wilson. The drive was finished off by #1 Sean Greys 6 yard Touchdown run to make the score 14-7 Chattooga with 3:37 left before halftime. Just over 90 seconds of game time later Chattooga’s #25 Lashaun Lester rumbled into the endzone from 43 yards away to make the score 21-7 Chattooga.  The Indians Scored once more with 20 seconds left on the clock on a 47 yard run by # Nic Hester. That would send us to halftime with a score of Chattooga 27 Gordon Central 7.

– Gordon Central received the ball to start the second half. The Warriors went on a long drive that was aided by a fake punt and a few penalties on defense by the Indians. Gordon central scored from 1 yard out with a run by #13 Peyton Wilson. The long drive by the Warriors took 6 Minutes off the clock. The Warriors ended the next Indian drive with an Interception by #14 Blake Broome. With momentum firmly on the Warriors side they set off on another drive that entered Indian territory. The drive was ended by a 3rd Down tackle for loss by #34 Zander Cook. The 3rd quarter came to an end and the Indians only ran 4 plays on offense.

– Just a few plays into the 4th quarter #4 Nic Hester scored on the longest play of the night with a 92 jaunt  to bring the score to 34-15.  Gordon Central then mounted a drive just past midfield that ended on a incomplete pass on 4th down. The possession would then go back to Chattooga with 5:26 left in the game. The drive would end on a 6 yard touchdown run by #25 Lashaun Lester. Gordon Central would take to the air on the next drive with less than a minute left on the clock. Chattooga’s #4 Nic Hester made a leaping interception followed by a 62 yard return for a Touchdown to close out the scoring for the Indians. Gordon Central quickly drove down the field vs the Indian youngsters and scored with the horn sounding on a Touchdown pass from #13 Peyton Wilson to #7 Jayden Sibley. That would send our final score to Chattooga 47 Gordon Central 21.

-Chattooga moves to 3-2(2-0) and will be on the road to visit the Eagles of Coosa next week. While Gordon Central falls to 0-6(0-2) and will be on the Road in Lindale next week to face off against the Pepperell Dragons.

-Chattooga Senior Runningback #25 Lashaun Lester went over the 4,000 Yard mark in this game with his 20 Carries for 183 Yards. He currently stands at 4,072 yards rushing in high school.
